Our Values

At present about 12.5 million tons of plastics from fossil resources are employed in Germany per year. More than 30 % of the plastics are used for short-lived packaging products. As a result, these plastics are available as industrial or consumer waste to the secondary raw materials market only a few weeks or months after their production.
Over 50 % of the light packaging materials from the household collections consists of plastics. Today mixed plastics, especially film, increasingly gain in importance, whereas in the past primarily product groups like cups and bottles were sorted.
Within the scope of the so-called mechanical recycling of mixed plastics HAHN KUNSTSTOFFE GMBH manufactures a great variety of innovative products for the most diverse applications – an active contribution to the ecologically and economically sensible use of secondary plastics.
The Process Sequence of Mechanical Recycling
  • After inspection in the context of our quality management the raw material is shredded and subjected to iron separation.
  • Pieces of glass and wood, non-ferrous metals as well as thick-walled plastic pieces are separated during airstream sorting and mechanical treatment.
  • After subsequent thermal desiccation and pelletizing agglomerates or pellets are produced.
  • With the addition of colorants these are thermoplastically transformed into profiles, finished parts and system components by means of our manufacturing techniques.
We are convinced that Quality Management is a key factor for successful customer relationship management.
To meet the demands of our customers for high value products of consistent quality, our quality management reports directly to senior management. Clearly defined processes, responsibilities, and objectives plus a friction-free flow of documents and material are the foundation of our quality management. In the QM manual, all processes - from examination of the raw materials, via quality controls integrated into the production process, and on to final inspection of the produced profiles and precast elements - are described in cooperation with our employees.
Quality Management from A to Z
It begins with an examination of the raw materials and quality-orientated selection of our suppliers. Hahn Kunststoffe GmbH prepares plastics from the collections of the German Dual System and from selected industrial collections. The incoming goods inspection of plastic bales is carried out as per the specifications of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kreislaufwirtschaft und Rohstoffe (DKR; German Society for Closed Substance Cycle Waste Management and Raw Materials). If deviations from the present specifications are detected during visual inspection, the whole load is put on hold and inspected according to a given checklist. The established data are documented in protocols exactly like the processing of bales into pellets.
Regular weighing of our products in the context of input and output control as well as the monitoring of compliance with recorded storage and packing instructions complement our internal quality controls. The results of these inspections and controls form the basis for the advancement of our manufacturing know-how and the constant improvement of product quality. Furthermore, they ensure product traceability.
The external quality control is handled by accredited testing institutes and publicly appointed technical expert. In the process, the quantity and extent of the external materials and product tests are successively expanded for the benefit or our product quality documentation. In our Download Centre we offer a multitude of information as PDF-files.

By mechanically recycling plastic packaging from household and industrial collections HAHN KUNSTSTOFFE GMBH actively contributes to the protection of our environment and its resources.
Compared to conventional processes, mechanical recycling ("turning old into new") has proven to be especially eco-efficient and CO2–reductive. At present, about 60 % of plastic packaging collected is converted into new products.
Products made from hanit® are highly eco-friendly. Being chemically inert, they do not contaminate the environment in which they are utilised.
hanit® products are subjected to permanent materials testing in the form of eluate analyses carried out by renowned institutes such as the ÖKOMPARK laboratories in Baumholder, Germany. In the course of migration testing it is determined whether the specimen emits harmful substances by leaching or washing out. The established values range well below the permissible test values.
The monomers of the raw materials employed were preregistered with ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) within the scope of the REACH regulation, although HAHN KUNSTSTOFFE GMBH, as a recycler, is not obligated to do so. REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Athorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. Additionally, HAHN KUNSTSTOFFE GMBH confirms that all suppliers have preregistered with ECHA, thus ensuring conformity with the applicable statutory regulations.
The following certificates prove and emphasize the environmental commitment of HAHN KUNSTSTOFFE GMBH:
  • Certified by the German Technical Inspection Agency with regard to energy consumption and potential for energy savings.
  • Certificate pursuant to the German Packaging Ordinance for recyclers
  • "THE BLUE ANGEL" eco-label
  • Licensed in accordance with the Federal Immission Control Ordinance
