Flowerbed design

FLOWERBED DESIGN

Beds are an extremely important element in garden design as only atmospheric planting with beautiful flowers and herbaceous perennials gives the garden individuality and that certain extra something. It is therefore hardly surprising that many gardeners invest a lot of time and effort in bed design to ensure the plants grow well and attract attention every year with their vibrant colours. One of the most important tips when designing or creating a new bed is to select the right plants bearing in mind the location and the compatibility of the plants with each other. In addition, it is vital to think about suitable edging for the different areas from the outset when planning the garden and designing the beds. If this is not taken into consideration at the planning stage, maintenance of the beds will be much more time-consuming later on, as without a border the lawn can take over the beds unhindered and, conversely, the plants can also grow over the edge of the bed - not a particularly good look.

This can be prevented in the long term with a suitable border around the beds. Our hanit® recycled range offers you the choice between delicate bed edging and a somewhat more robust lawn edge. Both products are ideal for differentiating beds from lawns visually and functionally and providing a decorative backdrop for various types of plants in the garden - whether annuals, herbaceous perennials or vegetable plants. Compared to models made from conventional landscaping materials, our products have several advantages that ensure long-lasting and reliable use in the garden. hanit® is, for example, weatherproof and splinter-free. This makes time-consuming repairs in spring or impregnation in autumn a thing of the past. Our recycled plastic easily withstands even frosty temperatures in winter and remains strong and unbreakable in both sunny and shady spots in the garden. Our bed design products give gardens a neat appearance all year round and are therefore often used for front gardens. hanit® is the optimum base for a sustainably attractive and well-kept appearance and hugely reduces the effort required for garden upkeep.

Our recycling solutions for bed design are also used widely by professional gardeners and landscapers due to the aforementioned material properties - often beyond their actual intended application. Our lawn edging is used, for example, to distinguish between different areas such as playgrounds, sandpits or patios and is also often used as a border or edge for paved areas.

With our bed design products, many creative ideas can therefore be implemented - whether in the design of a private green oasis or professional landscaping. Our Rolled Garden Edging producing a wide variety of shapes when creating borders for perennial, vegetable or flower beds and other areas. For example, as a rectangular, round or curved border, it shows off lush flowerbeds in very different ways – whether in a clean and modern or artistically playful way. Our lawn edging is available in two colours, to suit individual preferences for garden design and support different garden styles. While the brown version assimilates harmoniously with the hues of nature and therefore perfectly underscores a natural design, the lawn edging in grey blends ideally into modern gardens and settings. Our hanit® products provide additional flexibility in garden design with their simple adaptability, as our recycled plastic can be easily cut and worked like wood. Any idea can become a reality. You can find detailed installation tips on the relevant product page in the download section.

hanit Garden Edging
Garden Edging
Our Garden edging made from hanit® recycled plastic provides clear structures in the garden because it cleverly sets the scene for certain areas and, with a height of 14 cm, provides a clear separation of flower beds, vegetable beds or perennial beds from lawns. There are no limits to your design freedom, because both straight and rolled versions of our Garden edging are available, therefore allowing you to have Garden bed borders in any shape – be it square, round or rectangular. And a curved border can also be easily implemented with the rolled profile, which is ideal for flexible design. In simple anthracite grey, the timeless appearance of the Garden edging blends harmoniously into any garden, providing plants of all kinds with a beautiful and decorative frame. It can also be used as a separating element within a bed and therefore contribute to optimum growth of the plants in the vegetable bed, for example, unplanned mixed cultures can be prevented by enclosing individual areas. The Garden edging also can prevent lawns from spreading into the beds. This provides an optimum combination of decorative and practical aspects – which applies to a bed border made from hanit® in a very special way. Thanks to the unique material properties, hanit® recycled plastic can withstand rain, frost and UV radiation over the long term in comparison to many conventional materials, and moisture rising from the ground cannot damage the border of the bed. Expensive maintenance measures and repair work are therefore a thing of the past. A tidy look for years to come is also guaranteed, because hanit® recycled plastic is splinter-free and unbreakable, making it the perfect basis for well-groomed beds and a beautiful garden. Our Garden borders are therefore also often used to frame trees and decorative elements such as fountains or statues. To ensure that the Garden edging is in a permanently stable position, we recommend our weather-resistant and moisture-repellent square posts made from hanit® recycled plastic for installation, matching in grey. Approx. 24 posts are required for a rolled profile, and approx. 4 posts for a straight profile. If necessary, the profiles can be shortened to the required length, because like wood, hanit® recycled plastic is easy to process using conventional tools. This gives you complete flexibility when you are edging the beds and designing your garden. All of the important information for installing the Garden edging can be found in the download area.

Grass Edging
Grass Edging
A seamless transition between the border and the edge of the lawn looks very natural but also has a big downside. The edge has to be raked or cut every four to six weeks during the growing season to prevent the lawn from taking over the flowerbeds and maintain a neat appearance in the garden. Clear differentiation by means of Garden edging or Grass edging is therefore a considerably lower-maintenance option - especially if it’s made from hanit®. Our recycled plastic is moisture, frost and UV-resistant and even constant contact with damp soil cannot harm this durable material. Compared to many models made of conventional landscaping materials, hanit® Grass edging is protected against weathering for many years and provides optimum conditions for a permanently clean lawn edge and a well-kept garden without the need for time-consuming maintenance. The straight lines also make mowing the lawn easier and mowing robots can move along the edge without difficulty and pick up every blade of grass. Our hanit® Grass edging is also a reliable choice as a mowing border. Our hanit® Grass edging is very simple to install thanks to the practical connector system and with a profile length of 250 cm even large areas can be sectioned off in no time at all. If necessary, the Grass edging can be cut to size, as hanit® can be worked like wood. Clean working and flexibility to adapt to local conditions are given.Owing to its premium material properties and flexible fast installation, our hanit® Grass edging has long been used for more than just edging beds or lawns in private gardens. As a popular design element in professional gardening and landscaping, our Grass edging is also used in public parks and leisure facilities to create borders for beds and lawns and to section off other areas such as playgrounds, seating areas or sandpits. Our Grass edging is also ideal for marking out property boundaries and as splash protection around houses. And our recycled plastic Grass edging has proven itself many times over as border reinforcement for courtyards, driveways and other paved areas due to its toughness and simple design. Our hanit® Grass edging is available in grey and brown. The grey variant, for example, is often used for edging modern courtyards, driveways or garden paths, as it goes perfectly with neutral paving stones in grey or anthracite, which are all the rage at the moment. Grass edging in grey also works well as a decorative border because it visually clearly differentiates the bed from the lawn and makes plants look nice. The brown version of our Grass edging, on the other hand, is ideal for a natural look in gardens or outdoor spaces, creating a smooth transition between the bed and lawn area despite a clear boundary.
